Glendale fire: Evacuations ordered as helicopters attack blaze
A brush fire has broken out in Glendale at the 134 and 2 freeways, where the transition road has been shut down as firefighters move in.
The fire is on the ridge line of the 2100 block of Chevy Chase Drive and Glenoaks Boulevard, according to Glendale police Sgt. Tom Lorenz.
Evacuation orders have been issued for some homes in the 500 block of Solway Street and Chevy Chase Drive. Traffic into Chevy Chase Canyon has been closed as water-dropping helicopters attacked from above.
The LAFD said four helicopters and more than three dozen firefighters were battling the blaze.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
Plumes of smoke could be seen for miles. Kevork Kurdoghlian, a student at Glendale Community College, tweeted, “It’s raining white pieces of ash in #LaCanada ... Wind is blowing from #glendalefire toward LCF.â€
