Cee Lo Green is leaving ‘The Voice’
Cee Lo Green won’t be on “The Voice†when it returns for its sixth season next week. In a last-minute announcement, the singer revealed on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show†on Wednesday that he was moving on from the hit singing competition show.
“I’m going to miss ‘The Voice’,†Green said. “I’m not coming back at all.â€
Instead of being one of the show’s judges, Green says he intends to put his time and energy into putting out a new album. “I haven’t released an album in four years,†he said. “I am almost done with an album.â€
But that doesn’t necessarily mean Green’s TV days are numbered. He explained: “I’m going to continue my relationship with NBC. I have a television show development deal with them as well, and hopefully some other talk show opportunities for later in the year.â€

NBC’s president of reality programming, Paul Telegdy, reiterated Green’s plans with a statement: “We’re looking forward to working with [Green] on other upcoming projects that will tap into both his musical and entertainment expertise.â€
The judging panel for the show’s sixth season will consist of Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Shakira and Usher.
Such turnover in judges is par for the course these days in a world where the audience seems to be growing fatigued with the format. Fox recently canceled Simon Cowell’s “The X Factor†and “American Idol†features a fresh configuration of judges that includes the old (Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban) and the new (Harry Connick Jr.).
The new season of “The Voice†kicks off Monday.
