Samsung pokes fun at people waiting in line for iPhone 5
Samsung is continuing its ad campaign against the iPhone 5 with a sequel to a commercial released last year that pokes fun at Apple fans who wait in line for the new iPhone every year.
The new ad went up on YouTube Wednesday morning, just two days before the launch of the iPhone 5.
It points out that Samsung’s Galaxy S line of phones has had 4G connectivity for some time now, that the Galaxy S III has a much larger screen than the iPhone 5, and that the Galaxy S III has Near-Field Communication technology, which lets users send each other information by simply tapping their phones.
The ad also tries to portray the Galaxy S III as a hip phone by frequently referring to it as “the GS3†and showing a Samsung user waiting in the iPhone 5 line because he’s holding a spot for his parents.
Last year, Samsung released a similar ad involving the Galaxy S II and the iPhone 4S, but the latest one is more brutal and lasts half a minute longer.
Samsung took a shot at the iPhone 5 this weekend, running full-page ads in newspapers saying “it doesn’t take a genius...†It listed features of the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy S III, with the Samsung phone’s list nearly twice as long. The ad concludes: “The next big thing is already here.â€
