Neon Trees’ Las Vegas ties run deep

Reporting from Las Vegas — The band Neon Trees has some special ties with Las Vegas. The alternative rock group out of Provo, Utah, found itself in the national spotlight when they went on tour with Vegas’ own The Killers in 2008.
Now the band known for its 2010 hit “Animal” returns to Las Vegas with a show at the Boulevard Pool at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas on Friday, June 12. Outdoor concerts here are special, taking place on a pool covered with an acrylic topper and projected on the resort’s massive LED pylon overlooking the Las Vegas Strip.
Neon Trees didn’t record its first album until 2010 when “Habit” came out and the single “Animal” climbed to No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Alternative Rock chart. The group’s third album, “Pop Psychology,” features “Sleeping with a Friend,” “I Love You (But I Hate Your Friends),” “Voices In the Halls,” and “First Things First.”
The name Neon Trees came from those green trees on the In-N-Out Burger logo. The band’s website notes that bassist Branden Campbell’s father happened to install those neon signs for In-N-Out Burger when he worked for a Vegas sign company.
Indie pop rock singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Alex Winston opens.
