Indie darling Alabama Shakes rattles the lanes at Vegas’ Brooklyn Bowl

Reporting from Las Vegas — Pair up bowling, fried chicken and rock music when Alabama Shakes comes to Las Vegas in April. The Grammy-nominated band plays Brooklyn Bowl at the Linq on April 18.
In 2012, the band from Athens, Ala., recorded their first album. Their first single, the hypnotic “Hold On,” developed out of on-stage improvisation.
“We threw out that riff and Brittany [Howard] started singing along, and the crowd started singing with her like it was a song they already knew,” bassist Zac Cockrell says in a statement about the upcoming show.
New York Times music critic Jon Pareles once described the band as “a thunderbolt dressed in bluejeans,” with music that’s “aching when it’s slow and growling and whooping when it’s fast.” NPR named it one of the best bands of 2011, while MTV called Alabana Shakes one of the top bands to look for in 2012.
Los Angeles-based rock band Allah-Las opens.
As for the fried chicken, Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill, opening at in the former Fat Cow space at The Grove in Los Angeles this spring, is behind the menu at Brooklyn Bowl.
The Bromberg brothers’ crispy fried chicken and comfort foods anchor the culinary options there. Bonus: You can even bowl on one of 32 lanes -- yes, even during the concert.
