Celine Dion to receive Icon award, perform at Billboard awards show in Las Vegas
Singer Celine Dion will receive the Icon award when the Billboard Music Awards are presented in Las Vegas this month.
Dion will receive Billboard’s award during the May 22 show at the Strip’s new T-Mobile Arena, it was announced Wednesday. (Here’s a full list of award finalists.)
Following acceptance of her award, Dion will perform her rendition of Queen’s “The Show Must Go On.†The selection is particularly poignant; she returned to the Caesars Palace stage in late February, six weeks after the death of her husband.
René Angélil died Jan. 16 at the couple’s home in suburban Las Vegas.
Dion’s many awards include six Billboard Music Awards, five Grammys and two Oscars. She has sold near 250 million albums during her 30-year career.
The Billboard award for lifetime achievement is given to artists who have stood the test of time. Past recipients include Neil Diamond (2011), Stevie Wonder (2012) and Prince (2013).
Tickets to the awards show in Las Vegas start at $68 per person.
Viewers on the West Coast will be able to watch the show live on ABC-TV at 5 p.m. May 22.
Those who want to catch her ongoing Las Vegas show at Caesars can purchase tickets for performances through Nov. 26.
