Daily Deal: Hotel bargains for San Jose’s VivaFest

The 22nd VivaFest celebrates Mexican music, dance, arts and culture in September in San Jose.
This year’s featured acts at VivaFest include Sol de Mexico Mariachi Band on Sept. 7 and the Mexican rock band Kinky on Sept. 28. Two Marriott hotels are offering room discounts on festival weekends starting at $74 a night.
The deal: The VivaFest package discounts rooms but doesn’t include tickets to concerts or events. The deal isn’t available online; you have to call and ask for the VivaFest rate.
Fairfield Inn & Suites San Jose Airport (1755 N. 1st St.) offers rooms with refrigerator and microwave, fitness room and pool access, free Wi-Fi and breakfast starting at $74 a night plus tax. The San Jose Marriott (301 S. Market St.) has rooms with access to fitness center and pool, and discounted valet parking starting at $89 a night plus tax.
When: The deal is good Sept. 6-9, Sept. 13-15 and Sept. 27-29 at Fairfield Inn; same dates plus Sept. 30 at the San Jose Marriott.
Tested: I called the Fairfield Inn and found the discount available for Sept. 6-9. Room price is $74 a night plus tax -- $25 less than the best available rate for the same nights.
