Doors to the new Santa Barbara Airport terminal that will serve the Southern California coastal city will not swing open until mid-July, but starting this week, the public can get sneak peaks at the Spanish Colonial Revival-style facility.

On Friday, the formal-minded can done cocktail attire and whip out their wallets for the “Art of Travel,†a red-carpet evening gala with music, food, wine and beer and local politicians and personalities mingling around a vintage DC-3 airplane. Tickets to the event, a fundraiser for the airport’s public art program, are $125 per person.

On Sunday, an open house will be held 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for noon. Free, timed entry tickets are required.

Parking for both events will be at the Fairview Corporate Center, 420 S. Fairview Ave., Goleta. Shuttles will drive attendees to the airport.

The two-story, 60,000-square-foot terminal will consolidate check-in, security, baggage and car rental, functions currently spread out in three buildings. Passengers will board and deplane on glass jetways that offer views of the mountains and ocean. Other improvements include a reconfigured short-term parking lot and a new access road.
