France: Paris bistro
Chez Gramond Restaurant, 5 Rue de Fleurus, 75006, Paris, 011-33-1-42-22-2889. “On my morning walks in Paris [in June], which took me from our hotel on Place San Placide to Luxembourg Gardens, I often passed a small restaurant, Chez Gramond, and exchanged ‘bonjour’ with the proprietor as he prepared for the day’s business. The restaurant looked small and expensive but on our last night in Paris we walked over for dinner. It was a good decision. The menu was country French, varied and handwritten, of course, in French, which proved not to be a problem as the proprietor’s wife assisted us, and we ordered a lamb stew. The setting was warm and intimate, the service personal and perfect and the food excellent. The cost for the two of us was about $90.”

Also haupia, the Hawaiian dessert. Ken’s has good coffee and is five minutes from the Hilo Airport near the hotels. It also has a great lunch menu.” Breakfast and lunch prices start at $3.99, and a typical meal is about $7.50.
