What’s up for the weekend: Events for Feb. 2-4
Run a marathon, swing dance, celebrate the Lunar New Year or help fire victims in a fun way in the first weekend in February.
Camarillo, Ventura
Listen to “The Sounds of Generation Z†as the Channel Islands Chamber Orchestra performs classical selections by Haydn and Debussy.

Huntington Beach
Lace up those running shoes for a 5K, half-marathon or full marathon at the Surf City USA Marathon and LifeStyle Expo. The kids’ Cowabunga Challenge is a beach obstacle course. The adult runs are Sunday. This event benefits Team Challenge of the Chrons and Colitis Foundation.
When: 1 p.m. Feb. 2 and 9 a.m. Feb. 3 for LifeStyle Expo. 10:30 a.m. Feb. 3 for Cowabunga Challenge for Kids. 6:30 a.m. Feb. 4 for marathon; 7 a.m. Feb. 4 for 5K; 7:45 a.m. Feb. 4 for half-marathon.

Ventura
Kevin Costner, Olivia Newton-John, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and other celebrities are to perform at the Thomas Fire Benefit Festival at Plaza Park. All the proceeds will benefit fire victims.
When: VIP (age 21 and older) 2 p.m., general admission 4 p.m. Feb 3.

Palm Desert
Put your dancing shoes on for the third Swing ‘n’ Hops Street Party on El Paseo. The Jennifer Keith Quintet will belt out swing tunes from the 1930s and ’40s so you can Lindy Hop, jitterbug or do the Charleston. Newbie? Don’t worry, lessons will be offered. Dancers will also find microbrews, food booths and classic cars. Be sure to dress for the swing era’s costume contest.

Hermosa Beach
Dress in 1980s style to be in character with the “Blast From the Past†show by artist Paul Roustan at the Resin Gallery, 618 Cypress Ave. Roustan’s known for body painting that makes it appear the models are clothed but, in fact, are wearing only paint. Play video games, watch live performances and see a Back to the Future Delorean too.
When: 6 p.m. Feb. 3.

Monterey Park
Ring in the Year of the Dog with the Lunar New Year Festival. The largest ethnic street festival in the San Gabriel Valley will spread across five city blocks and feature more than 15 performances of Chinese music, folk dances and the traditional lion and dragon dance. More than 50 booths will serve food.
When: Feb. 3 and 4.
