Scenery’s the star of Hawaiian’s safety vid, but can it upstage Betty White or the screaming goat?
Like other airlines, Hawaiian realized its safety message was getting lost so it created a video that uses the islands as a teaching aid.
If you tend to ignore flight safety briefings, you might want to pay attention to Hawaiian Airlines’ video. It will put you in the mood.
We mean the mood for Hawaii, of course.
It’s another entry into the new world of safety briefings. Gone (or going) are the robotic “seat belts look like this†and “exits look like this.â€
The sampler above of what is a 4 1/2-minute video sets the required instructions (starring airline employees and their children) against the backdrop of the island’s stunning scenery.
More than 30 people were filmed in some of their favorite places on Hawaii Island, Kauai, Oahu and Maui.
It joins a host of other airline videos that try to take the dry out of safety stuff that’s so boring you could scream.
Delta, in fact, plays screams (and more) for laughs. It has strung together a video that’s made up of a host of your favorite Internet memes, including the screaming goat.
If you blink, you might miss keyboard cat, which starts off this video. The game is to try to count how many you recognize. Dancing baby and Rainbow Man, anyone?
Betty White comes to the aid of an Air New Zealand safety video. Gavin MacLeod gives her an assist, telling her he’s carrying a priceless antique in a box he stows under the seat. When she asks what the priceless antique is, he replies, “Your sense of humor.â€
And Virgin America has a safety video dance that’s straight out of the ‘50s/21st century. One singer croons, “Buckle your seat belt, put it on tight and keep your (Whoop!) in the chair till we turn off that light.â€
Amen.
