Give your roller bag to charity, and receive credit for new luggage

Ever think of doing some good with your aging roller bag? Now you can.

A Case for Giving is a two-week program during which travelers can donate their “gently used” wheelies to charity and receive credit for a new one.

The program was launched Tuesday by luggage maker Briggs & Riley based in Hauppage, N.Y.

“Luggage is very much needed by many organizations such as foster homes, battered women’s shelters, and organizations like local Ronald McDonald House chapters,” Richard Krulik, the company’s chief executive, said in a statement.

Charity partners include Ronald McDonald House Charities in New York, Seattle, Dallas, Denver and Atlanta.

Here’s how it works: Turn in a Briggs & Riley bag, and you’ll receive a $100 credit to buy a new Briggs & Riley bag; turn in any other bag, and you’ll receive a $50 credit for a Briggs & Riley bag.

The luggage comes in four collections and costs $299 for a wheelie carryon to $699 for a large wheeled wardrobe, according to the company.

You can take the bags to participating stores nationwide, including:

--Distant Lands Travel Outfitter, 20 S. Raymond Ave., Pasadena

--Briggs & Riley at Kensington Luggage, Santa Monica Place, Santa Monica

--H. Savinar Luggage, 4625 W. Washington Blvd., Los Angeles, and at 6931 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Canoga Park

--Magellan’s Travel Gear at 1006 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica.

The offer begins Friday and runs through March 1.
