You can see the Cowboys and the Rams in Oxnard in the run-up to the NFL season
The Rams are coming back!
OK, just for a two-day workout against Dallas at the Cowboys’ Oxnard training facility and a solo workout the next day. Still, it’s a start. And the sea breezes have to be alluring after the Missouri humidity the Rams usually practice in.
Cowboys practices are free and open to the public; parking is $10 and there is a passel of restrictions: no backpacks, bikes or pets. But the sessions always offer a good fan experience and a rare taste of pro football.
Through August, all guests staying in an Oxnard hotel will receive a complimentary parking pass to the training camp for each day of their stay. The Residence Inn by Marriott at River Ridge is the host hotel for the Dallas Cowboys.
Directions: The camp is 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles. From L.A., take the 101 north. Exit Oxnard Boulevard, then go right. Make your first left onto Town Center Drive, then go left onto Ventura Road.
The Cowboys’ public practices, subject to change:
Aug. 10, 4 p.m.
Aug. 11, 10:30 a.m.
Aug 15-16, 4 p.m.
Aug. 17-18, 4 p.m. (with Rams)

Aug. 25, 4 p.m.
Aug. 26, 10:30 a.m.

Three other NFL teams are holding training camp in California, but only the San Diego Chargers, who practice near their Qualcomm Stadium home, are a reasonable driving distance from L.A. The Raiders are in Napa Valley and the 49ers are in Santa Clara.
The Chargers practice at Chargers Park, at 4020 Murphy Canyon Road, off the I-15 and north of Qualcomm. Bleacher seating is available, and coolers with food, water and soft drinks are permitted. The Chargers say fans may bring their own cameras, but video cameras and long-lens cameras are not allowed.
On weekends, parking is available on Murphy Canyon Road and in the Kearny Mesa Business Center, south of Chargers Park. On weekdays, parking is available only on Murphy Canyon Road. Gates open one hour before the start of practice.
Chargers practices open to public:
Aug. 10, 2:50-4:45 p.m.
Aug. 15, 9:20-11:15 a.m.
Aug. 17, 2:50-4:45 p.m.
Aug. 18, 9:20-11:15 a.m.
Keep an eye on @chargers for Twitter updates, as practice times and days are subject to change.
