Las Vegas: Bruno Mars, John Legend, Maroon 5 ring in new year

Here are 11 ways to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas -- whether with synchronized fireworks or concerts by the likes of Bruno Mars, John Legend, Kristin Chenoweth and Maroon 5 -- and two ways to recover. Among the choices:

Singer-songwriter Bruno Mars christens the Chelsea, the new, intimate venue at the Cosmopolitan. Tickets, priced at $150 and $200 (plus taxes and fees), are available online or by calling (800) 745-3000. The concert also will be screened outdoors beside the resort’s ice skating rink.

Grammy-winner John Legend will count down 2014 and then begin his show inside Haze nightclub at Aria. Various prices, from $50 for women and $125 for men. Tickets can be purchased online.

Seven Strip hotels will herald the New Year with a synchronized fireworks display. The Stratosphere is offering a Tower VIP Party. For $350, guests will have access to all the activities on levels 103, 104 and 108, including a four-hour, premium-brand open bar, food stations, DJs, dancers and spectacular views of the pyrotechnics. The viewing platform atop the Eiffel Tower at Paris Las Vegas will provide prime fireworks viewing from 460 feet above the Strip. The party at the Mandarin Oriental promises to be a refined affair. The hotel’s 23^rd floor will be the site of a gala that includes live music and dancing. New Year’s Eve is the only time all year long that admission is charged at the Fremont Street Experience. Lucky revelers will share in $25,000 in prize money during the New Year’s Eve bingo party at the South Point. The games begin at 10 p.m. The buy-in is $50 per person. The hotel-casino is on Las Vegas Boulevard but about six miles south of the Strip.

Downtown restaurant Park on Fremont doesn’t care whether Jan. 1 diners show up for the Hangover Brunch in their party frocks or their PJs.
