Road trip to Wall Streets paints a portrait that’s uniquely California
Think of Wall Street and images of lower Manhattan and harried day-traders may spring to mind. You probably don’t envision a 79-year-old man draining a Budweiser at 9 a.m., or an oversized rebel flag flapping atop a convertible Jeep. Welcome to Wall Street, Calif. My husband, Dan Evans, and I set out to photograph the various Wall Streets in the state, as well as the people who live or work there. On a road trip last month up and down California, we found the Wall Streets are as varied as the Golden State’s people and topography. Why Wall Street? Dan found himself on Wall Street in skid row a few years back while doing a photographic project. The juxtaposition of that dilapidated and pungent street and New York’s financial center cried out to be illustrated and expanded and the project morphed into Wall Street, Calif. Here is some of our photographic journey.
