100 best places in the U.S. for brunch, including 16 in California
Just in time for Mother’s Day, OpenTable has come out with its crowd-sourced list of what its users say are the 100 best brunch places in America.
New York topped the list of brunchable spots with 20 restaurants, and California came in second with these 16 (many of which have Mother’s Day menus, in case you’re still planning a Sunday meal out):
--Beachcomber Cafe at Crystal Cove in Newport Beach, which is a remodeled cottage at the beach-side spot;
--Dead Fish Crab House and Prime Rib in Crockett, on the water north of Berkeley;
--Geoffrey’s Malibu, a classic coastal spot with lots of ocean views;
--Gracias Madre, a plant-based menu of Mexican food in West Hollywood;
--The Great Maple in San Diego keeps the menu seasonal;
--Greens Restaurant, a famed vegetarian restaurant in San Francisco with a dreamy location in Fort Mason;
--The Ivy in West Hollywood, which features omelette concoctions and even lobster on its breakfast menu;
--Las Brisas in Laguna Beach is known for its Cal-Mex flair;
--Lulu California Bistro in Palm Springs, which adds grilled pork chop and curry chicken salad to the usual brunch fare;
--The historic Majestic Yosemite Hotel (formerly the Ahwahnee) in Yosemite National Park;
--Perch LA in downtown Los Angeles, a rooftop restaurant with views of the city;
--Champagne Brunch on the Queen Mary in Long Beach, which can include a pre- or post-brunch walk around the vintage ship;
--The Rotunda at Neiman Marcus allows you to add a brunch stop to your shopping;
--Town in San Carlos serves up steaks and seafood;
--Spencer’s Restaurant in Palm Springs, which says it serves “American cuisine with a French-Pacific Rim influenceâ€; and
--Yank Sing at the Rincon Center in San Francisco for a dim-sum brunch.
OpenTable says the choices reflect the 5 million reviews on its restaurant reservation website. Here’s the rest of the list; keep it handy for when you’re on the road.
