Twist named Las Vegas’ best restaurant of 2017. And Eatt takes the cake for best dessert
Food critics have spoken: Twist by Pierre Gagnaire has been voted Las Vegas’ restaurant of the year for 2017, and Francesco Di Caudo was chosen as chef of the year.
Winners in 11 categories are listed in the December issue of Desert Companion, the magazine of Nevada Public Radio.
Twist, which overlooks the Strip on the 23rd floor of the Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas, is one of several upscale restaurants led by respected French chefs.
“Besides the razor-sharp execution, jaw-dropping presentations, and fork-dropping flavors, what impresses most about Twist is how it’s come together in the past year to become an almost perfect Las Vegas restaurant,†the magazine said. “It always had the pedigree, the spectacle and the world-class cooking, and now its menu fits the Strip like a Chanel suit.â€
Di Caudo works at Ferraro’s Italian Restaurant & Wine Bar, located a couple of miles east of the Strip along Paradise Road. It has been one of the city’s go-to Italian eateries since 1985. Di Caudo arrived in 2015.
“The young Sicilian chef brings audacity and verve to Ferraro’s solid menu of Italian classics,†the magazine said. “Making an established kitchen sing a new tune while still playing the golden oldies is a remarkable feat for any chef.â€
Other honorees for 2017 include:
New restaurant of the year: Sparrow + Wolf, located two miles west of the Strip on Spring Mountain Road, features shared plates of American cuisine.
Excellence in service and management: Morel’s French Steakhouse & Bistro at the Palazzo, recognized for its “precise professionalism.â€
Dessert of the year: Paris-Brest at Eatt, which are cream puffs filled with a praline cream and topped with chocolate and caramelized hazelnuts. It’s well worth the drive to 7865 W. Sahara Ave.
