MSC’s Seaside named best new ship, Carnival deemed best cruise value
Dozens of cruise lines received kudos Tuesday as cruise review website Cruise Critic announced its 10th annual Editors’ Pick Awards. Winners range from small riverboats to some of the largest passenger ships sailing the world’s oceans.
Viking Cruises, with both river and ocean ships, scored five awards; MSC Cruises’ Seaside was named best new ship; and Carnival Cruise Line was honored for the fourth year in a row with the award for best value.
The winners are chosen by the site’s team of editors, which look for “the lines that have stood out as the best of the best over the past year,†according to Colleen McDaniel, senior executive editor of Cruise Critic.
Ocean awards included nods to Celebrity Cruises for best cabins and best for romance. The romance award was given because the line has hideaways aboard that allow couples to find a romantic escape, including a real lawn for picnics, according to Cruise Critic.
The best for families award went to Disney Cruise Line for the second year in a row for its wide array of activities for kids. It also received an award for best entertainment.
The top river award went to AmaWaterways, which was voted best river cruise line for the second year in a row; it also received an award as best for active cruisers.
Uniworld’s Joie de Vivre received the award for best new river ship and an award for best service.
Viking River Cruises received three awards: best for first-timers, best shore excursions and best enrichment. It also won two luxury awards for its ocean cruises: best for value across luxury lines and best spa.
Other luxury awards were given to Silversea Cruises for its newest ship, Silver Muse, which received the award for best new luxury ship. The line was also named best for adventure.
Regent Seven Seas was named best luxury cruise line and received an award for best cabins.
