Santa Fe: Hotel deal for parents, $50 gift card for their college kid

It’s that time of year when kids are heading off or going back to college. One Santa Fe hotel wants to reward parents for making the drop off with a getaway package that includes a $50 gift card for their college kid.

The deal: La Fonda on the Plaza is a 91-year-old hotel that underwent a renovation last year that upgraded rooms and common areas but retains its Old West decor. The hotel’s Empty Nesters Romance Package for two starts at $299 a night.

In addition to the gift card for kids, guests receive a $75 room-service credit to be used at the hotel’s La Plazuela restaurant, free admission at 15 museums and historic sites with the New Mexico Culture Pass and a late 2 p.m. checkout.

When: The offer is good through the end of the year, based on availability.

Tested: I tested several dates and found availability plus a good price for Sept. 28 to 30. These two nights (different rates on different nights) cost $487 including tax. The $50 gift card, $75 room-service credit and two culture passes valued at $25 each are nice extras with a stay at this central city hotel.
