Can you imagine showing up wearing recyclables at your next formal do? That’s the challenge artists face in the Festival Runway Fashion Show competition in Laguna Beach on Aug. 15.

Couture outfits must be made from reclaimed, reused or recycled material.

For the seventh year, the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts hosts this “Project Runwayâ€-style fashion show. Artists compete for $1,000 prizes in four categories: most creative concept, most exciting ensemble, most innovative use of materials, and most glamorous and elegant Red Carpet-worthy outfit.

You’ll have a chance to weigh in with the People’s Choice Award voted on by attendees.

Artists competing on the runway (and whose work can be seen at the festival) are sculptor and figurine maker Jessica deStefano, painter W. Bradley Elsberry, furniture maker Richard A. Evans, painter Elizabeth McGhee, ceramicist Richard Moren, jewelry designer Adam Neeley, fiber artist Mariana Nelson and sculptor Jayne Reich.

Entries will be judged by a three-member panel: TV personality Cristina Ferrare, artist Regina Jacobson and costume designer Alex Jaeger.

Actress Melissa Biggs of “Baywatch,†now known as Melissa Scott Clark, will host the runway action.

The Festival Runway Fashion Show runs from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 15. It’s included in the price of a ticket to the Festival of Arts, which costs $10 on weekends.
