USC’s Leonard Williams selected as semifinalist for Bednarik Award
USC defensive end Leonard Williams was selected as a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award, presented annually to college football’s outstanding defensive player.
Williams, a junior, is regarded as a potential top pick in the 2015 NFL draft.
Williams has 54 tackles for the Trojans, who defeated Washington State, 44-17, last week to improve their record to 6-3 overall and 5-2 in the Pacific 12 Conference. Williams had three tackles and broke up a pass against the Cougars.
Williams has seven tackles for losses, including 4 1/2 sacks.
He also has intercepted a pass, forced three fumbles and broken up three passes.
Three finalists will be announced Nov. 24, the winner Dec. 11.
