All quiet at Palmdale home of Josh Shaw’s family

It was all quiet in Palmdale on Wednesday at the home of USC football player Josh Shaw’s family.

Shaw, a senior team captain, was heralded as a hero this week after USC publicized his account of rescuing a young nephew from a swimming pool.

However, the school announced Wednesday that Shaw had been suspended indefinitely from the team after he admitted the story he told his coach and other USC officials was a fabrication.

No one answered the door at Shaw’s parents’ home, but about 3 p.m. -- a half-hour before USC’s announcement -- a man who identified himself as Shaw’s cousin pulled up to the driveway with three children.

A couple of minutes later, a woman arrived and picked up the children. Both the man and the woman declined to comment or give their full names.

The man said the family would reach out to the media if it wanted to comment.

Neighbors said they were aware of the story surrounding the cornerback, but only through media reports. The family is nice and the parents say hello to neighbors when they see them, but otherwise they keep to themselves, residents said.

Neighbors said Shaw’s father, James, told them after the initial story broke that reporters may visit the area, and he asked them to tell him if anyone tries to speak with them.

Shaw was an All-American for Palmdale High’s football team in 2009 before accepting a scholarship to Florida. He played 10 games for the Gators in 2011, making one start, before transferring to USC.
