USC freshmen preview: Cornerback Iman Marshall will challenge for time
USC freshman cornerback Iman Marshall at player-run practices in June.
This month we will preview each USC freshman who will join the team in training camp.
Player: Iman Marshall
Position: Cornerback
Number: 8
Height: 6 feet 2
Weight: 200 pounds
High school: Long Beach Poly
Hometown: Long Beach
High school: Marshall was selected an Under Armour All-American in high school, where he played safety and receiver.
Marshall deflected 16 passes and made 85 tackles. He caught 19 passes for 315 yards and eight touchdowns.
USC position breakdown: The Trojans have senior Kevon Seymour, who was among the most improved during spring practice and will start for a third season, and sophomore Adoree’ Jackson, who will start for a second season.
USC listed Marshall behind Kevon Seymour and redshirt freshman Lamont Simmons on the spring depth chart. However, Simmons transferred after spring practice.
Marshall could challenge Seymour for playing time, but it is unlikely he will take over as the starter. He also could challenge sophomore Jonathan Lockett to relieve Jackson, who plays on offense, defense and special teams.
Season prediction: Marshall will play as a backup cornerback and will start on special teams.
