Sotonye Jamabo, a Plano (Texas) West High running back who signed a letter of intent with UCLA, was arrested early Sunday morning on suspicion of drinking and fleeing police in a vehicle, the Dallas Morning News reported.
Jamabo, 18, was believed to have attended Plano West’s prom Saturday night. According to an arrest record obtained by the Dallas Morning News, Jamabo was charged with minor consumption of alcohol, minor in possession of alcohol, speeding, driving without possessing a driver’s license and disregarding a stop sign.
UCLA officials were aware of the incident, but would not comment beyond a statement.
“We are obviously concerned about these reports and are currently gathering more information,” said Josh Rupprecht, UCLA’s associate athletic director for communications. “As this is a continuing process, we will withhold further comment until the appropriate time.”
Jamabo gained 2,279 yards rushing and scored 44 touchdowns last season.
