Hokies coach Buzz Williams uses PA mic to tell fans to ‘stop cussin’’ during game against Duke
Virginia Tech fans decided they couldn’t take any more of the officiating during a home game against Duke on Monday night.
And soon after, Hokies coach Buzz Williams decided he couldn’t take any more of those fans’ foul mouths.
The crowd at Cassell Collesium had been all over the Blue Devils all night, especially star player Grayson Allen. At one point during a Virginia Tech rally with just over three minutes remaining in regulation, the officials gave Allen a favorable call, much to the displeasure of the home fans.
As a vulgar chant rained down on the court, Williams calmly walked over to the public address announcer and gestured for the microphone. He then delivered this message to vocal portion of the crowd:
“Guys, quit cussin’. Quit cussin’. Don’t throw anything on the floor regardless of what’s happening.â€
Virginia Tech went on to win the game 64-63 on a last-second tip-in by Chris Clarke.
