Former Bruins, Trojan lead All-Stars with Southern California ties

Southern California is known as a hotbed of baseball talent at the prep and college levels, so it should come as no surprise that several players named to the MLB All-Star teams on Sunday and Monday have ties to the area.

There are 10 all-stars that played either in high school or collegiately in Southern California with the potential for one more should Mike Moustakas win the American League “Final Vote.”

Leading the way are three first-time selections that attended UCLA and USC: Pirates starter Gerrit Cole, Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford and Rays closer Brad Boxberger.
