That’s pretty much how Super Bowl XLIX ended Sunday night. After a dramatic final minute or so that featured an improbable catch, a questionable play call and a goal-line interception to seal a New England victory, a huge on-field fight broke out between Patriots and Seattle Seahawks players in the waning seconds.

Seattle linebacker Bruce Irvin was ejected for his role in the brawl. New England tight end Rob Gronkowski was not, but he clearly took part in the extracurricular activities.

Or did he?

“I don’t think I did,†Gronkowski joked during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live†Monday night. He then pretended to address NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell: “No, Roger, no I did not.â€

Kimmel proceeded to show footage of the fight, with No. 87 clearly seen taking a swing at an opposing player.

“Ooh ... ooh,†Gronkowski said, as if seeing the video for the first time. “Roger that wasn’t me. Don’t fine me.â€

But then Gronk finally owned up to it, saying all the Patriots wanted to do was take a knee and end the game after Malcolm Butler’s interception with 20 seconds remaining in the game.

“And then all the sudden they went hard at us,†Gronkowski said of the Seahawks players. “And then I got pushed or something, and I was, like, ‘Screw it. Last game of the year -- I’m throwing some haymakers.’â€
