Saying he realized he had never said he was sorry in public, Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice said Thursday at training camp that “I didn’t publicly apologize to my wife. I know that hit home for a lot of people. I’ve made the biggest mistake of my life. Me. She can do no wrong. She’s an angel.â€

Rice was arrested on assault charges after a Feb. 15 incident in which he allegedly struck Janay Palmer. Rice has been accepted into a diversion program, which upon completion could lead to the charges being dropped.

He received a two-game suspension from the NFL and a fine in excess of $500,000. He said he never intended to appeal the punishment.

“I own my actions,†Rice said Thursday. “I just don’t want to keep reliving the incident. It doesn’t bring any good to me. I’m just trying to move forward from it. I don’t condone it. I take full responsibility for my actions. What happened that night is something that I’m going to pay for the rest of my life.â€
