Phil Mickelson on the state of his game: ‘It’s terrible’

This has not been a good week for Phil Mickelson.

His golf game has fallen off since an impressive victory at the British Open in July, and now it seems he is losing patience.

Playing at the CIMB Classic in Malaysia, Mickelson bemoaned the state of his swing after two mediocre rounds that left him tied for 25th heading into the weekend.

His take on Thursday’s opening round?

“The path of the club is too inside, then it’s vertical, the head’s moving, my legs are loose. Divots are steep,” he said. “It’s terrible.”

Friday wasn’t much better: “Right now, the difficulty is I may make some decent swings and not miss too much, but I don’t know if I’m missing it left or right.”

Forget about trying to win at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club, where Keegan Bradley holds the lead at 13-under with Ryan Moore four strokes back. At 3-under, Mickelson doesn’t expect things to improve until he has the time to address his technical flaws in the off-season.

“I’m just kind of hanging in there,” he said.
