Pink flags will fly at Jets-Dolphins game

The NFL has been awash in pink during October in consideration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month -- pink towels, sweat bands and protective sleeves, and pink shoes, shoelaces and gloves.
When the New York Jets play host to the Miami Dolphins in a key AFC East game at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, pink penalty flags will be flying thanks to 11-year-old Dante Cano, who wrote NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell with the idea.
“My name is Dante Cano. I am 11 years old and I am from Marlboro, New Jersey,” Cano wrote. “I wanted to know if you could use my idea of pink penalty flags in October for breast cancer awareness. Please write back.”
Goodell did better than that.
“Dante had a great idea and I am looking forward to meeting with him on Sunday to put it into action,” Goodell said in a statement. “Sometimes the simplest ideas can be the best. I applaud Dante for sending in his recommendation.”
Cano and his family were guests of Goodell and the Jets before the game in East Rutherford, N.J., where they were on the field about an hour before kickoff.
The fifth-grader was presented with a game ball signed by Goodell: “You are very special!”
