Galaxy adds Coach Bruce Arena’s son Kenny to coaching staff
The Galaxy said Monday it has added Kenny Arena, son of Galaxy head coach and General Manager Bruce Arena, to the soccer team’s coaching staff.
Kenny Arena, 32, has spent the last two years as head soccer coach at Florida International University in Miami, and he’s a former coach in the Galaxy Academy for younger players.
“We are pleased to add Kenny to our coaching staff,†Bruce Arena said in a statement. “Kenny’s familiarity with the Galaxy, experience in player development and his knowledge of the college game make him a good fit for our club.â€
Kenny Arena led the Florida International Panthers to a record of 14-18-3 in his two years there. He also had earlier coaching stints at the University of Virginia, George Mason University and UCLA.
During his four years at UCLA, the younger Arena also worked as a coach with the Galaxy Academy, serving as head coach of the under-16 club.
Arena also spent three years as a Major League Soccer player, appearing in 20 games with the MetroStars (now the New York Red Bulls) and D.C. United.
