Veteran safety Donte Whitner attracts interest from Rams
During last month’s NFL owners meetings, Rams Coach Jeff Fisher and General Manager Les Snead both spoke about the possibility of adding a veteran safety via free agency.
The Rams have a need at the position because Rodney McLeod signed with the Philadelphia Eagles.
“It would make everyone feel good if we did have a veteran that’s played in there,†Snead said.
That would explain the Rams’ apparent interest in Donte Whitner.
Whitner, 30, was released by the Cleveland Browns on April 2. According to several reports, he will visit with the Rams this week.
Whitner, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, played at Ohio State and was the eighth pick in the 2006 draft by the Buffalo Bills. He also has played for the San Francisco 49ers for three seasons before joining the Browns in 2014.
