Donald Trump extends grip over golf world by buying Turnberry Resort

Donald Trump has continued his quest for world golf domination by purchasing Turnberry Resort, the iconic Scottish course that is part of the British Open rotation.
Trump told Golf.com he has no plans to change the course, known for its trademark lighthouse, sandy hillocks and craggy coastline. But he could tinker with the resort’s name.
“ ‘Trump Turnberry’ has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?” he was quoted as saying. “We’ll make that decision fairly soon — in a couple of days.”
Trump’s golf holdings now stretch from Dubai to Los Angeles. This most recent purchase, reported at more than $60 million, gives him at least one major men’s championship.
Writing for GolfDigest.com, Geoff Shackelford suggests the sport brace itself for more.
The U.S. Golf Assn. has already awarded the 2017 U.S. Women’s Open to Trump Bedminster in New Jersey. That course could eventually get the U.S. Open.
There is also a possibility Trump National Doral in Florida might land a PGA Championship.
