NCAA panel approves rule change for targeting players

Now here’s a college football rule change that people can wrap their arms around.

A day after an NCAA rules panel tabled a controversial proposal that would have forced up-tempo teams to wait at least 10 seconds before snapping the ball, a panel amended the controversial “targeting� rule that was implemented last year.

By rule, the team with a player ejected for targeting would also receive a 15-yard penalty even if replay overruled the player ejection.

An NCAA panel on Thursday approved an earlier football rules committee proposal that would eliminate the 15-yard penalty when the player ejection is overturned.

The rule change will take effect this season.
