Bobby Petrino injured in motorcycle accident
Bobby Petrino was hurt in a motorcycle crash Sunday night, but the 51-year-old Arkansas football coach is listed in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery, according to a statement released by his family Monday morning.
Petrino crashed his motorcycle after veering off a highway near the town of Crosses in Madison County, Ark., and was taken to a hospital for treatment, state police said.
Zack Higbee, a spokesman for Petrino, had no comment on the accident Monday and would not even say if Petrino was involved. But in a statement issued through the university, Petrino’s family confirmed the incident.
“Coach Petrino was involved in a motorcycle accident on Sunday evening that involved no other individuals,†the statement said. “Our family appreciates respect for our privacy during the recovery and we are grateful for the thoughts of Razorback fans at this time.â€
The school said in a statement that Athletic Director Jeff Long will provide further information after consulting with Petrino’s family. A source close to Petrino told ESPN’s Joe Schad that the coach is “pretty banged up†but is focused and determined to return to practice as quickly as possible.
Arkansas is scheduled to continue spring practice Tuesday with its spring game coming up on April 21.
Petrino is 34-17 in four seasons with the Razorbacks, with three bowl game appearances that include last season’s victory over Kansas State in the AT&T Cotton Bowl. He has also coached Louisville and the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons.
