Americans have a good and bad day at swimming world championships

Leaving no doubt as to her dominance in the 1,500-meter freestyle, Katie Ledecky broke the world record she set a day before while winning gold at the swimming world championships in Russia.
It was a busy and largely successful day for the Americans in Kazan.
In addition to Ledecky bettering her mark by more than two seconds, Rachelle Simpson and Cesilie Carlton won gold and silver, respectively, jumping off the 20-meter board in women’s high diving.
It was only the second time the diving event has been included in the world championships. Carlton took first in the debut two years ago.
Things did not go as well for Missy Franklin, who missed the podium in 100-meter backstroke. Same thing happened to Ryan Lochte in the 200-meter freestyle.
