Chicago gets the nod over L.A. to host 2015 NFL draft
The city of Chicago -- not Los Angeles -- has been awarded the 2015 NFL draft.
Multiple sources told The Times that members of the bid team in L.A. were informed Thursday afternoon that the league’s marquee event was headed for the heartland.
That likely will come as a surprise to some people in the league because the competition committee voted in August to recommend the three-day event be held in at the Nokia Theatre in L.A. But NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, responsible for the final decision, went in a different direction.
The sources who spoke to The Times did so anonymously because they are not authorized to publicly reveal which city was selected.
In July, the league pared the field of candidates from 12 cities to two finalists, L.A. and Chicago. Goodell said in July that both cities had “tremendous bids.â€
The draft has taken place in New York since 1965, but the NFL said it made the decision to move it when the league was unable to secure the desired dates at Radio City Music Hall.
The 2015 draft will be held April 30-May 2.
