Colin Kaepernick on Trump and Clinton: ‘It almost seems like they’re trying to debate who’s less racist’
Colin Kaepernick didn’t like what he saw when he tuned in to Monday night’s presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
“It was embarrassing to watch that these are our two candidates,†the San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback told reporters Tuesday. “Both are proven liars, and it almost seems like they’re trying to debate who’s less racist.
“And at this point ... you have to pick the lesser of two evils. But in the end, it’s still evil.â€
Since the NFL’s preseason, Kaepernick has refused to stand during the national anthem as a protest against social injustice. Trump called him out about it during a radio interview in August, suggesting that Kaepernick find somewhere else to live if he doesn’t like it here.
“It’s a very ignorant statement that if you don’t agree with what’s going on here, if you want justice, liberty and freedom for all, then you should leave the country,†Kaepernick said Tuesday. “He always says, ‘Make America Great Again.’ Well, it’s never been great for people of color.
“That’s something that needs to be addressed. Let’s make America great for the first time.â€
