Cowboys’ Beasley: Romo in same argument with Brady, Rodgers, Manning
Tony Romo’s performance since the start of last season has him climbing the charts in terms of respect.
The Cowboys quarterback completed 69.9 percent of his passes and had a rating of 113.2 last season to rank among the top seven in NFL history in both of those categories. He followed that up with a come-from-behind victory in the final period of Sunday night’s opener, the 25th of his career counting January’s playoff win over Detroit.
Philadelphia coach Chip Kelly said Romo is playing as good as any quarterback in the NFL. You won’t hear Romo’s teammates argue.
“I just think he’s good, man,†receiver Cole Beasley said. “He’s one of the best quarterbacks in the league if not the best. He’s arguably up there with those guys.
“You can argue him with Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning all day to me. He’s a great quarterback and he’s going to be at his best when his best is needed.â€
Has Romo’s performance since the start of last season begun to win critics over?
“I don’t know much about that,†Beasley said. “I just know what I’ve seen in practice and in games.
“When you know the guy, it’s different. There is always going to be those people on the outside who think they know better, think they know a person from watching on a screen. But you can’t tell anything about a guy watching from a screen. There is a lot that goes on in a game.
“It’s the hardest sport to play, man. There are 22 guys out there, all getting paid because they are the best at what they do. It’s a tough game and he’s one of the best ones to do it.
“That’s saying a lot.â€
