Texas Tech motivated by second chance at top-5 team after last week’s near-miss
Texas Tech missed a chance to record a program-launching victory over a Top-5 opponent last week when TCU prevailed, 55-52, on a tipped, fourth-down touchdown pass in the final minute of play.tmpplchld The Red Raiders’ reward for that heartbreak? They get another shot to do the same thing Saturday in Arlington, when Tech (3-1, 0-1 in Big 12) meets No. 5 Baylor (3-0, 0-0) at AT&T Stadium. Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury said he’s confident the opportunity for immediate redemption will trump any lingering disappointment about the potential victory that got away in Lubbock.tmpplchld He described his players as “a resilient group†and cited the opportunity to avenge last year’s 48-46 loss to Baylor in Arlington as a motivating factor Saturday.tmpplchld “They’ll be ready to go. If you can’t get fired up for this, you’ve got issues,†Kingsbury said. “They have a great mind-set and they know we’ve go to get better this week.â€tmpplchld Tech already has avenged one lopsided loss from 2014 with a 35-24 victory at Arkansas on Sept. 19. A week later, the Red Raiders came within one play of defeating a TCU team that throttled Tech, 82-27, in 2014. The team psyche, said defensive lineman Branden Jackson, remains positive.tmpplchld “We feel that we’re a new team and going in a new direction,†Kaster said. “So we really haven’t been using too many references from last year to build on this year. But I’m excited for Saturday.â€tmpplchld ___tmpplchld (c)2015 Fort Worth Star-Telegramtmpplchld Visit the Fort Worth Star-Telegram at www.star-telegram.comtmpplchld Distributed by Tribune Content Agency, LLC.tmpplchld
