Phillies snap 6-game skid with 6-2 win over Marlins
MIAMI Cody Asche launched two home runs including an upper deck shot and Aaron Harang delivered what was only his second quality start since May as the Phillies snapped a six-game losing skid with a 6-2 win over the Miami Marlins Tuesday night.
Asche, who lost his third base job a month into the season and was losing his grip on a starting job, period, entering the season’s final month, enjoyed the first multi-home run game of his career in the victory. He has homered four times in his last eight games.
Asche ripped a solo shot off Miami starter Tom Koehler in the fourth, reaching the second deck of the right field seats at Marlins Park. His second was a line-drive bullet off left-handed reliever Raudel Lazo.
“It’s good to see him swinging the bat like we think we can,†Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said.
Asche’s 11 home runs this season (in 118 games) are a career high; he hit 10 last season in 121 games. Asche, in his second season as a full-time regular, is hitting .249 on the season and entered play yesterday with a .675 OPS, which ranked 54th among 66 qualifying hitters in the National League.
Harang, meanwhile, took a shutout in the seventh inning, when he served up a two-run home run to Miguel Rojas. It was his only blemish of the night.
Harang pitched at least seven innings and allowed three runs or fewer for the second time in the last four months. The other start also came at Marlins Park, a month ago.
Like Asche, Freddy Galvis had three hits and two RBIs. Ken Giles clinched the Phillies’ first win in nine days by pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
