Rams safety T.J. McDonald was arrested Tuesday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence of a substance other than alcohol, a police official said.

McDonald, 25, was arrested after officers from the Topanga Division of the Los Angeles Police Dept. responded to a report of a collision in the 22900 block of Gershwin Drive in Woodland Hills, Officer Mike Lopez said.

Officers encountered McDonald, who apparently collided with a parked car, Lopez said.

An investigation revealed McDonald was driving under the influence, but “it wasn’t alcohol,†Lopez said.

McDonald was booked on suspicion of violating a section of the vehicle code that stipulates ,â€It is unlawful for a person who is under the influence of any drug to drive a vehicle.â€

McDonald was held on $300 bail. He was released at 6:23 p.m. and has a June 3 court date, according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Dept. website.

The Rams released a statement Tuesday night addressing the matter.

“We are aware of the incident involving T.J. McDonald this morning,†the Rams said. “We are gathering information and will have no further comment at this time.â€

McDonald, who played at USC, suffered a season-ending shoulder injury late last season and underwent surgery.

He has been participating in the Rams’ off-season training program in Oxnard. The Rams are scheduled to begin organized team activities May 31.
