Surprising Hawks win at Dallas, 105-102, improve to 20-7

Dennis Schroder scored a career-high 22 points Monday night, and the surprising Atlanta Hawks held off the Dallas Mavericks, 105-102, to sweep a three-game trip and take sole possession of first place in the Southeast Division.

The Hawks (20-7) played without their leading scorer, point guard Jeff Teague, who has a hamstring injury. But they still won their fourth in a row overall and for the 13th time in 14 games. They are half a game ahead of the Washington Wizards in the division. Last season, with largely the same roster, Atlanta finished 38-44.

All five Hawks starters scored in double figures. Kyle Korver had 18 points, Al Horford 17, DeMarre Carroll 15 and Paul Millsap 13. Monta Ellis led the Mavericks with 18 points, 11 during a fourth quarter in which they outscored Atlanta, 39-23.

at Chicago 120, Toronto 120: Derrick Rose scored 29 points, Jimmy Butler had 27 points and 11 rebounds, and the Central Division-leading Bulls scored a franchise-record 49 points in the fourth quarter to snap the Atlantic Division-leading Raptors’ six-game winning streak. Chicago, which has won three straight, got Rose and Taj Gibson back after each missed two games. Rose, who scored 15 points in the fourth quarter, had been ill and Gibson was out with an ankle injury. Kyle Lowry scored 34 points for Toronto, 18 in the fourth.

Utah 97, at Memphis 91: Alec Burks scored 23 points, Gordon Hayward added 21 and the Jazz withstood a late push to hand the suddenly struggling Grizzlies their third straight loss. Southwest Division-leading Memphis, whose 21-7 record is the league’s fourth- best, was without starting forward Zach Randolph, who has a knee injury. Marc Gasol led the Grizzlies with 24 points and 12 rebounds.

at Houston 110, Portland 95: James Harden scored a season-high 44 points and the Rockets ended the short-handed Trail Blazers’ five-game win streak. Portland was without leading scorer and rebounder LaMarcus Aldridge, who had upper-respiratory illness. It was Harden’s NBA-leading third 40-point game this season.

at Golden State 128, Sacramento 108: Klay Thompson poured in 25 points in 28 minutes, and the Warriors rolled to their 18th win in 19 games.

at Charlotte 110, Denver 82: Al Jefferson scored 22 points, Kemba Walker added 18 points and nine assists, and the Hornets extended their winning streak to three games, a season high.
