Ed Davis signing with Portland Trail Blazers, report says
Not only have the Lakers struck out luring other team’s free agents, they’ve reportedly lost one of their own.
According to Yahoo Sports, Davis will sign a three-year, $20-million contract with the Portland Trail Blazers, once the league’s annual moratorium expires on July 9.
Davis signed with the Lakers last season on a two-year, $1.2 million minimum contract but opted out of his second season. Through 79 games, the forward/center averaged career highs in scoring (8.3 points a game), rebounding (7.6), blocked shots (1.2), assists (1.2) and field-goal percentage (60.1%).
Thus far this season, the Lakers appear to have lost out on their top choices in big men LaMarcus Aldridge and Greg Monroe. Clippers center DeAndre Jordan has yet to announce his intentions, but he may be more likely to re-sign with the Clippers or leave for the Dallas Mavericks.
The Lakers can muster approximately $22 million in cap space, but have yet to find someone willing to join the franchise that won just 21 games last season.
“Come July, hopefully I am back with the Lakers,” said Davis to The Times in April. “One thing about the organization, they’ll turn around sooner or later.”
Instead he’ll play for the Blazers.
