Kobe Bryant will miss a sixth consecutive game because of a sore left shin when the Lakers play the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday at Staples Center.
Lakers Coach Mike Brown said at his team’s shoot-around Tuesday morning that Bryant continued to progress in his recovery, but he would not predict when his star shooting guard might return.
“He’s done some one-on-one stuff,” Brown said, “and he’s starting to move around a little bit pretty good.”
Bryant will need to show trainers he can run and jump without pain before being cleared to play.
The Lakers, who have five games remaining in the regular season, play at Golden State on Wednesday and at San Antonio on Friday. Brown said there was not a specific number of games Bryant needed to play to be ready for the playoffs.
“With a guy like Kobe, especially, his feel is so great for the game that I think he’ll be able to ease in probably better than most guys,” Brown said, “but for me to sit here and say, ‘He needs five games’ or ‘He needs two games,’ would not be correct. I think it’s just more by feel than anything else.”
The Lakers have won four of five games with Bryant sidelined, including a 98-84 victory over San Antonio last week.
