Big loss leaves even Magic Johnson almost tweetless
Reporting from DENVER — The Lakers have been so bad, so boring, that even their most vocal supporter — and sometimes critic — has been pushed into silence.
The tweet came from Magic Johnson late Sunday night.
“Laker Nation: After losing to the Thunder by 40pts [Saturday], for the first time I’m at a loss for words. Lol,†he wrote.
It has been a while since we heard Johnson mention the Lakers on Twitter.
He’s been tweeting about the Dodgers, Stephen Curry, Michigan State football, Cam Newton and the Miss Universe pageant but not much on the Lakers compared to past years.
Johnson used to tweet critiques about former Lakers coaches Mike D’Antoni (“Happy days are here again! Mike D’Antoni resigns as the Lakers coachâ€) and Mike Brown (“Don’t think he was the right guy for the jobâ€).
Byron Scott, however, is one of Johnson’s best friends. There haven’t been any anti-coach tweets from the unpaid Lakers vice president since Scott was hired in July 2014.
Johnson hasn’t completely stopped ripping the Lakers.
Earlier this month, he again took aim at executive Jim Buss in an interview after a Dodgers news conference, saying Buss should stay out of the Lakers’ day-to-day decision-making.
“He should just be the owner, like his dad was just the owner,†Johnson said, citing that the Lakers have struck out on big-name free agents three summers in a row and languished in the standings for years.
Their 118-78 embarrassment Saturday was the Lakers’ worst game in 48 years against the Oklahoma City/Seattle franchise.
It almost made sense that Johnson was at a loss for words.
“I was too,†Scott said Monday. “We’ve got to forget about that and move on. We’re looking to come out [Tuesday against Denver] and make amends for the way we played the last game.â€
