It wasn’t long ago that Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton was a top prospect trying to play his way into the majors.

On Wednesday, Stanton was hit in the helmet by Miami’s top pitching prospect, Jose Fernandez, during live batting practice (video above).

When Stanton spotted a downtrodden Fernandez on Thursday in camp, he had good news for the hard-throwing 20-year-old.

X-rays were negative, he had no symptoms of a concussion, and the outfielder who starred at Notre Dame High in Sherman Oaks, Calif., said his vision was normal after originally suffering from blurriness.

“Everyone is giving him a hard time,†Stanton said of Fernandez on Thursday. “But I don’t think it’s going to hurt his confidence. He’ll be fine.â€

Stanton said he expects to play in the Marlins’ exhibition opener on Saturday.
