Joe Flacco announces wife’s pregnancy at Super Bowl victory party
Joe Flacco’s life changed forever Sunday night. He’s now a Super Bowl champion -- and a Super Bowl MVP on top of that -- after leading the Baltimore Ravens to a 34-31 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
Not only has he silenced his seemingly ever-present critics, he almost certainly will become one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL after a performance that included three first-half touchdowns.
But there’s more, something that has nothing to do with football. At his private post-game party for family and friends, Flacco and his wife, Dana, announced that they are expecting their second child -- news they had kept to themselves until that point.
Actually, it wasn’t really an announcement. According to USA Today, the couple gathered their parents around the table early in the party and quietly told them the news, which naturally spread through the room rather quickly.
It’s pretty cool, really. Here Flacco is on the biggest night of his career and he turns it into a special family moment.
“He’s hit the trifecta,†his mother, Karen Flacco, said of her son’s Super Bowl victory, MVP award and impending-fatherhood announcement. “Somebody asks me if Joe was going to go win the lottery tonight. I said, ‘He already has.’â€
She pointed out that her son and his wife revealed Dana’s pregnancy with their first child following another Baltimore victory over San Francisco, on Thanksgiving night in 2011.
“It’s a 49ers tradition now,†she said, presumably marking her calendar for sometime in 2015 -- the next time the two teams meet in the regular season.
