Dallas Cowboys’ videoboard causes embarrassing incident during game

Jerry Jones must have thought he was so cool when he had the Dallas Cowboys’ videoboard installed at the team’s then-new stadium four years ago.

At 2,100 inches wide it was the largest high-definition screen in the world at the time, earning the Cowboys owner instant bragging rights for his monstrosity of a mancave known as AT&T; Stadium (formerly Cowboys Stadium).

One problem. That big ol’ thing hovering 90 feet above the playing field just might get in the way of punts. And it did, when Tennessee’s A.J. Trapasso hit it during the very first preseason game played at the facility.

But it never happened again -- until Dallas’ 24-18 preseason victory over Cincinnati on Saturday.

Dallas punter Chris Jones sent a first-quarter kick up so high that it ricocheted off the framework that holds the screens together. Even so, the punt still went 47 yards, but by rule it was a dead ball and a re-kick was in order.

The second punt stayed clear of any electronics overhead, but not Cincinnati return man Brandon Tate, who returned it 75 yards for a touchdown.
