One of the biggest mysteries this NFL season is what type of offense first-year Philadelphia Eagles Coach Chip Kelly will run.

Now we have a bit of a hint.

Kelly named Michael Vick the Eagles’ starting quarterback Tuesday, giving him the nod over Nick Foles and dark-horse rookie Matt Barkley.

The coach had been expected to announce a starter for the exhibition game against Jacksonville, but instead named Vick the permanent No. 1 quarterback.

“It’s not a one-game trial basis,†Kelly said, according to USA Today. “I would think it was a thorough evaluation. ... We felt like we had a good amount of tape, us seeing them on the field and us seeing them in a lot of different situations. We wanted to put a guy in place -- if we could -- in enough time to prepare us for the season.â€

Vick was outstanding in the season’s first two exhibition games, completing 13 of 15 passes for 199 yards and a touchdown. He had an interception at the end of the first half last Thursday, but it was on a Hail Mary heave.

Foles wasn’t as impressive but still went 11-for-14 for 96 yards. He also had an interception and lost a fumble.
